Aakash Odedra Company, and our upcoming production Songs of the Bulbul, were mentioned in The Times article “40 must-see shows at Edinburgh Festival 2024: the critics’ choice“.
Songs of the Bulbul will premiere at Edinburgh International Festival on the 9th of August, with performances also on the 10th and 11th. Songs of the Bulbul, performed by our artistic director Aakash Odedra and choreographed by Rani Khanam, is inspired by the ancient Sufi myth of a bulbul captured and held in captivity. Rooted in the expansive music, dance, and poetry traditions of Sufism, this new work by two of the most outstanding Sufi Kathak artists performing in the world today emerges as a sensitive dialogue between the ferocious physicality of Kathak and the spiritual journey of Sufism, a path seeking unity with the Divine.
The music for Songs of the Bulbul has been composed by Rushil Ranjan, and it will be played in recording by Manchester Camerata.
