Aakash Odedra Company Archive enters De Montfort University’s Special Collections

For over ten years Aakash Odedra Company has created award winning, internationally renowned work. Based in Leicester’s Belgrave Road, the company has toured around the world with it’s rich repertoire of boundary pushing dance. Now in it’s 10th Anniversary year the company’s archive is being added to De Montfort University’s Special Collections for students and academics to learn from.

To mark this landmark achievement we are holding an exhibition, Aakash Odedra Company: Footprints in Time in the atrium of the Vijay Patel Building, De Montfort University throughout October.

Katharine Short, Special Collections Manager at De Montfort University said:

"When the Aakash Odedra Company approached us about taking in their archive we knew that the collection would not only complement our existing dance papers but also provide vital expansion, broadening our holdings to include an artform that represents the experiences of the South Asian community in Leicester and demonstrates in so many ways the joyous outcomes of fusion and collaboration between cultures.

We are looking forward to working with academic partners in DMU to use the Aakash Odedra Company archive to enhance student learning as well as making the collection accessible to anyone – members of the public, dance enthusiasts, researchers – to be able to explore the amazing journey Aakash Odedra and his company have travelled over the last 10 years."

The exhibition is free to access and will run from 1 – 31 October, 9am – 5pm as part of Black History Month.
