70 minutes of solo dance and not for one second do you want to take your eyes off him

Award-winning artist Aakash Odedra returns to the stage again this Autumn to perform Rising, the solo show that launched his career as an international dancer and choreographer 10 years ago.

Coming to Birmingham Hippodrome on 17 November and Watermans, West London on 19 November, this is a rare opportunity to see Aakash in this stunning evening of four solo performances.

Experience the intensity of Rising, an evening of four distinct solos with choreography from acclaimed artists Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Russell Maliphant, and Aakash Odedra himself. Created in 2011, The Guardian termed this astonishing collection of talent the “dance equivalent of a red-carpet event.” Ten years and 200 performances later Aakash brings Rising to life with the same mesmerizing agility he’s renowned for and the maturity gained from a decade of developing his craft. Rising explores different processes and aesthetics using Aakash’s traditional background in kathak and bharatanatyam to create a distinct flavour of contemporary dance. An unprecedented pairing of world-renowned contemporary choreographers and one of the most talented British South Asian dancers of his generation.

These two performances complete our tour of Rising as part of our 10th anniversary year.

Earlier performances this year at Curve, Leicester; Oxford Playhouse and Lighthouse, Poole were met with the same praise and delight it received 10 years ago when it debuted.

Aakash’s performance at Curve, Leicester in May was described by David Mead in Dancing Timesas inspiring as ever, his beautiful sharpness and articulation quite mesmerising”.

The Guardian’s Lyndsey Winship transported readers to the theatre describing Aakash’s “superhero speed with a light touch” “full of Tiggerish bounce and smile”.
