Gizem Aksu is independent choreographer, dancer and academic/instructor. She graduated both from Department of Political Science & International Relations, Boğaziçi University (2010) and Department of Contemporary Dance, State Conservatory Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (2014) with Honours degrees. She went on to complete her Master of Arts degree and worked as an academic at the State Conservatory Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
Her works approach the body as a process involving art, politics and philosophy. In her own works, she has participated in several residency programs, festivals, biennial and quadrennial including TanzPlattform 2020, HELLERAU European Center for the Arts, 22. Istanbul Theatre Festival, WORLD 2.0 Festival, Dag van de Dans 2018, IV. International Mardin Biennial, Festival Cumplicidades/Lisbon International Contemporary Dance Festival, A Corner in the World Festival, Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, danceWEB in Belgium, Crotia, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Spain, Portugal, Turkey.
Gizem has worked with renowned choreographers; Aakash Odedra (UK), Ann Van den Broek (Ward/ ward) (BE), Aydın Teker (TR), Marc Vanruxt (BE), Tijen Lawton (BE), Tuğçe Tuna (TR) and performed in renowned festivals and venues in countries around the world including Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Turkey. She is still performing #Jesuis with Aakash Odedra Company (UK). Recently, She has been invited by Meg Stuart and Moriah Evans to participate in WITH performed at Tanzplattform 2020. She then became a resident artist for three months in HELLERAU, European Center for the Arts. She has been selected as one of three choreographers for the Think Big residency in 2021 by the Staatsballett Hannover and the festival TANZtheater International.
