ROOTS is Aakash Odedra Company’s dance intensive program aiming to help dancers discover their own unique routes, empower them to pursue their passion and make a lasting impact on the dance world. The first edition of the programme ran between September 2023 and February 2024.
The program had a vibrant ensemble of illustrious choreographers from the global dance industry. In the workshops the participants had the unique opportunity to learn from and collaborate with industry giants like Russell Maliphant & Dana Fouras, Hofesh Shechter Company, Alleyne Dance, Akram Khan Company, and of course, our very own Aakash Odedra Company.
The ROOTS workshops were attended by our five exceptional pre-professional dancers who received a full scholarship pathway through the program. The selected dancers, hailing from different parts of the UK and representing a range of dance disciplines, are Jess Bennett, Divija Mellaly, Krishna Priya Natarajan, Holly Jones, and Alexander Carpentier. Each dancer was chosen for their exceptional talent, dedication, and ambition to represent the future of contemporary dance.
The ROOTS programme finished with a performance by the cohort dancers at the New Work Festival Dance Showcase at the Curve Theatre in Leicester on the 16th of March 2024.
