Kids, Pre-Teens and Adults up to the age of 16 can take part in a Discover Arts Award qualification as an additional offer to the online Funk-a-thon provision this summer.
What is Arts Award?
Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England. It allows participants to complete their award across 5 levels; Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Within any of these levels the focus of the content is on arts appreciation, generating a deeper understanding of the arts through active research and participation, documentation of findings, and presentation in portfolios for moderation. All awards are recognised on the QCF framework, with Gold at the highest level providing UCAS points for a participant’s university application.
What is Discover Arts Award?
Discover Arts Award is an introductory award available to children and young people age 5+. The content is altered to be age appropriate, and requires participants to collect evidence in individual art logs to collate their experiences of:
- Taking part in arts activities
- Researching artists and their work
- Sharing their arts discoveries
How will this work alongside Shiamak practical classes?
Our team of education specialists at Aakash Odedra Company are all Arts Award advisors and will support each child or young person through their award. Alongside practical Shiamak classes, each participant will get an individual Discover Arts Award task sent weekly via email. These will be collated throughout the duration of the term to form a Discover Arts Award portfolio, which will then be submitted for moderation, allowing each participant to receive their own official certification for completion of the programme.
Some weeks may require participants (and parents if necessary) to join a Zoom chat to discuss and set work, other weeks will see tasks just sent via email. Our education team are available to respond to any questions or queries regarding the work via email or a phone call.
What commitment is required?
Children and young people will only be able to take part in the Discover Arts Award opportunity if they are completing a whole batch/term of Shiamak classes (we will not be able to support participants who only choose the ‘drop in’ option). The award itself requires approximately 20 hours of participation, though this also includes the weekly Shiamak practical sessions, and therefore will easily be achieved within the set timeframe. In order for participants to pass their award, we will require all elements of the Discover Arts Award pack to be completed by the end of the term.
What is the cost?
We will not be charging participants for weekly Arts Award support, as this is an additional offer we would like to give our students. There is however a cost for the moderation and certification of the Discover Arts Award which is £5 per participant. This payment is required at the registration stage on our Class4Kids booking website.
Can I find any more information?
We will be holding an informal Zoom chat for parents/participants interested in the award on Thursday 2 July from 5pm-6pm. Please note this is not compulsory, but will give an insight into the different tasks that will be set and will allow for any questions about the award and how it will be delivered. In the meantime you are also welcome to email our education team on email@example.com
